Starburst

Starburst

Starburst, originally launched as Opal Fruits in the UK in 1959, has delighted sweet enthusiasts for decades with its vibrant, chewy fruit-flavoured candies. The brand was introduced by Mars in the UK in the autumn of 1959, named Opal Fruits by Peter Phillips (known as Peter Pfeffer at the time), the winner of a competition that won him £5.

The four original flavours were strawberry, lemon, orange, and lime. In 1967, the confectionery made its U.S. debut under the name M&M's Fruit Chewies, which was soon changed to Starburst in 1968 to better capture the burst of flavour in each piece.

Over the years, Starburst has expanded its flavour offerings to cater to diverse palates. The original lineup has been complemented by varieties such as Tropical, Sour, FaveREDs, and Very Berry, each providing a unique twist on the classic chewy candy. In the early 1980s, the U.S. assortment saw the replacement of the lime flavour with cherry, reflecting evolving consumer preferences.

Starburst's commitment to quality is evident in its use of real fruit juice and the absence of artificial flavours, ensuring an authentic and satisfying taste experience. In the UK, Starburst products are suitable for vegetarians and do not contain any artificial colours or flavours. This dedication to wholesome ingredients has solidified Starburst's reputation as a beloved treat across generations.

Whether you're enjoying the classic strawberry, lemon, orange, and lime flavours or exploring the newer additions, Starburst continues to offer a delightful burst of fruity flavour in every bite. Its enduring popularity is a testament to its ability to adapt and innovate while staying true to its original charm.
