But whats the difference between candy pencils and candy cables?

In the UK, candy pencils and candy cables are both popular types of chewy, tube-shaped sweets but have some differences in size, filling, and usage:

  1. Candy Pencils:

    • Typically shorter in length (about 10-15 cm).
    • Have a thick, soft outer coating with a sweet, often vanilla or fruit-flavoured fondant filling.
    • Commonly come in bright colours with a white or flavoured filling.
    • Known for their softer texture and are often marketed as a more bite-sized treat.

  2. Candy Cables:

    • Much longer, often around 30-50 cm.
    • Have a similar chewy outer layer but sometimes a slightly firmer consistency than pencils.
    • Also have a fondant or similar filling, but the filling may be slightly less dense than pencils.
    • Often eaten as a "sharing" sweet or enjoyed for their novelty length, especially by children.

In summary, candy pencils are shorter and softer with a thicker filling, while candy cables are longer, slightly firmer, and often considered a novelty treat due to their length. Both are popular for their fruity flavours and chewy textures.
